Amber Reviews Perfect Lie by Teresa Mummert.

Synopsis:

Sometimes love burns so hot in your veins that it consumes all rational thought.

That's why Brock and I never had a chance.  I had to start my life over. College was my

chance to become someone new. I changed everything about myself to fit in, but

one person saw through my facade.

The attraction between Abel and I was undeniable, but I

still hadn't healed from the painful secret I carried around with me. Abel

struggled to get me to face my past in order to move forward. In doing so, he

revealed a secret of his own; one that changed everything I thought I knew.

A secret that would bring Brock back into my life and force

me to face the truth of what really happened the day I lost him.

Amber's Review:

A 4 Star Review by Amber Presley Boyd
I gotta say I had  quite the book hangover after finishing this story.  Teresa Mummert weaved quite the tale in Perfect Lie, a story centering on Delilah or Lie as she says her friends call
her. It’s apparent from the first page that Lie has a sad life, and that she is running from a past that no matter what she does she can’t seem to be set free from it completely. She is dwelling in emense loneliness, sadness and anger from a past that she can’t seem to escape and one that I wasn’t quite sure I could make sense of for a good part of the story. She has few people in her
life that are genuine and it seems that she either likes it that way or is just too scared to take a chance and let anyone inside.  It is also apparent that Lie has secrets that she is still trying to come to terms with as well as an incredibly crappy childhood, as she meets with her therapist Marie. Marie seems to be her one cheerleader until she meets Abel Jensen. Abel sees thru Lie’s façade, sees that
she is just pretending to be happy, pretending to feel connected to those around her, just pretending through her life. Lie is not sure what to think about Abel. He’s as much of a contradiction as she is in many ways. She knows she is attracted to him, but she never really feels worthy of anyone. Plus she is still not over her ex-boyfriend, Brock who is still in Mississippi and who we find is the first person to ever defend her, the first to ever care about
her and the first person to ever love her and she him.

Much of the story, especially Lie’s past, is told in flashback. I didn’t mind this, though at the time it was hard to figure out the gist of what had occurred between her and Brock, why she has no further contact with him given he was such a huge presence in her life. But as the story proceeds it becomes clear that something bad happened, something that is keeping Lie from moving on, from being able to find herself or believe in herself. It seems that the one thing Lie seems confident about is her ability to live within this Perfect Lie, nothing about her world is perfect.  Even though I had to re-read the last chapter to ensure that I understood what was revealed, I have to say that I liked this
story and its revelations. It was a most shocking end but ultimately this is a story about acceptance. It’s about making peace with a difficult past in order to find the good and become a better, healthier person. It’s about finding that someone that believes in you and loves you for the person you don’t believe
that you can be but that they know is there. This is definitely one to go on the TBR list.

*I received an arc in exchange of an honest review of this
book.

Author Bio:

"I was a Russian spy at the ripe age of thirteen, given my uncanny ability to tell if someone was lying ( I also read fortunes on the weekends). By sixteen I had become too much of a handful for the Lethal Intelligence Ensemble (L.I.E.). I was quickly exiled to the south of France where I worked with wayward elephants in the Circus of Roaming Animals and People (C.R.A.P.). I was able to make ends meet by selling my organs on the black market for pocket change and beer money. At the age of twenty three I decided to expand my horizons and become a blackjack dealer in Ireland. I loved the family atmosphere at Barney's Underground Liquor Lounge (B.U.L.L.). People couldn't resist the allure of Liquor up front and poker in the rear. Eventually I became tired of the rear and headed off to the United States to try my hand at tall tales. That is what brings us here today. If you have a moment I'd like to tell you a story.

Jenn Reviews Return to Poughkeepsie by Debra Anastasia. #giveaway

Summary:

Beckett Taylor is a murderer. His calling, his craft are destruction and intimidation—whether he wants it that way now or not. He left Poughkeepsie to keep his brothers safe, to keep Eve safe. Set up with happy lives to live, they’re better off without him, right?

But all his willpower crumbles when he hears his brother Blake’s frantic voice on the phone. An unknown enemy has moved in on his old territory, and Livia’s been taken. In an instant, Beckett knows it will take an attack only he and Eve can execute to bring her back. All his self-imposed embargoes are torn to shreds, perhaps along with the new man he’s struggled to become.

“Brother, call Eve. I’ll be there soon.”

In this emotional and action-packed sequel to Poughkeepsie, Debra Anastasia conjures a tale of love at its most raw and ragged. With Beckett and Eve, how could we expect anything less? But even when it’s messy, not magical, true love perseveres. Real love finds a way—for better or for worse until death does part.

Jenn reviews Return to Poughkeepsie :

5 stars

WHAT A RIDE! Debra Anastasia has done it again!

When I finished Poughkeepsie something happened that I totally did not expect – I LOVED Beckett! He became one of those characters that just stayed with me and now we have Beckett’s book! YES!!

Beckett wants to become a better person, someone who Eve deserves and so that is what he sets out to do. But, come on this is Beckett we are talking about!! He does shit his own way! He has not lived the life of an average person, his has been filled with violence in every direction, but he still has the most amazing love in him, especially for his family! Beckett and Eve are so scorching red hot, and I just can’t get enough of them.

I loved the thrilling ride that was this book! Every character we love is still there and yes, I’m still totally obsessed with Blake.

There is so much action in this book and turns left and right and I don’t want to spoil a single moment, so I will say you must go read this book because Debra Anastasia is a rock star goddess who will leave you breathless begging for more!

AND there will be more!!

Bio:
Debra Anastasia is busy, just like every other mom. There's dinner, the dogs, the two kids, the two kids, and her ongoing battle with...ahem... digestive issues, which combined with her adolescent boy sense of humor makes for colorful and sometimes cringe-worthy social media updates. Her first love and crowning achievement is her thriving career as the weirdest mom on the block.
Her writing started a decent handful of years ago when--along with the animals and humans in her house--the voices of characters started whispering stories in Debra's ear. Insomnia was the gateway to plots that wouldn't give up, wouldn't let go. Now they stalk her everywhere. Halfway through making lunches, a twist takes hold and--fingers full of peanut butter--she finds somewhere, anywhere to write it down.
She's eternally grateful to Omnific Publishing, which has now published four of her books: two in the Seraphim Series and two in the Poughkeepsie Brotherhood Series, as well as her novella, Late Night with Andres. That one is special because 100% of the proceeds go to breast cancer research. (So go get it right now, please!) She also very much appreciates her open-minded readers, who embrace everything she has to offer, with a focus on anti-heroes and bathroom humor.
Debra lives in Maryland with her family. You can find her at DebraAnastasia.com and on Twitter @Debra_Anastasia. But be prepared.

Book Trailer Reveal: Take Two by Laurelin Paige. Trailer and Giveaway.

Book Title: Take Two
Author: Laurelin Paige
Release Date: February 4, 2014
Publisher: Samhain Publishing

Summary:
He’s ready for his close up, but she’s the one calling the shots.

On the night of her graduation from film school, straight-laced Maddie Bauers fell completely out of character for an oh-my-god make-out session with a perfect stranger. Complete with the big O.

Seven years later, that romantic interlude is still fresh in her mind. That stranger is now a rich and famous actor. And she’s one very distracted camera assistant working on his latest production. She might consider another tryst…if he even remembers her.

Micah Preston does indeed remember Maddie. Too bad he’s sworn off Hollywood relationships. He allows himself as much sex as he likes—and oh, he does like—but anything more is asking for trouble. For the woman, not for him. Yet knowing Maddie could want more than a movie-set fling doesn’t stop him from pursuing her like a moth drawn to hot stage lights.

But as the shoot nears its end, it’s decision time. Is it time to call, “Cut!” on their affair, or is there enough material for a sequel?

Warning: Contains a dreamy movie star hero, a focus-pulling heroine, off-the-charts instant chemistry, steamy sex in near-public locations, and a new use for lip gloss.

Okay, now check out the hilarious, awesome trailer!!

Blog Tour: Three Broken Promises by Monica Murphy. Guest Post, Review, and Giveaway.

ABOUT THREE BROKEN PROMISES:

Breakout New Adult sensation Monica Murphy returns with a hot new contemporary romance—a heartfelt story of second chances, forgiveness, and redemption.

Commitment. That’s what I really want from Colin. Ever since my brother, Danny, died in Iraq, Colin’s done so much to help me, including giving me a job at his popular restaurant so I can leave my crappy waitressing job at the strip joint. But lying in bed with him every night to comfort him from his horrible nightmares isn’t enough anymore. I know he feels guilty about Danny’s death, about not going to Iraq, but I can’t keep living this double life.

I love him desperately, but he’s got so many demons, and if he can’t open up to me now, then he’ll never be the real partner I need him to be. I gave him a month, and now I’m out of here. If he truly loves me like he says, he knows where to find me.

Guest Post from author Monica Murphy:

Ten Things Jen thinks you should know about Colin

*Author’s note: I’m just going to go ahead and let Jen take over because she likes to do that sort of thing. It’s easier this way. Trust me.

Colin is a mystery to me still. I’ve known him for a long time. I can’t imagine not knowing him. But do I understand why he does certain things? Acts a certain way? Not really. I feel silly confessing that because hello, he’s my man. I like a certain element of mystery when it comes to Colin, but sometimes it’s very frustrating.

But enough about my frustration with Colin. Let me tell you a few things about him you might not know. Things I think you should know because it’ll give you some better insight into why he acts the way he does. Not that I know all about the infamous Colin but hey. I’m going to try.

1.      Colin Wilder—his last name completely fits him. He definitely has a wild side, especially in bed. Yes, I just went there. You know you wanted me to.

2.      I hated him when he first started hanging around my brother. I thought he was trying to steal Danny away from me, which he sort of was.

3.      When I graduated high school, he gave me a beautiful necklace. It was the most expensive piece of jewelry I’d ever been given. I think I fell a little in love with him that night.

4.      He’s a protector. He will do whatever it takes to make sure the ones he cares about are safe.

5.      Colin is a fair boss. He may be kind of hard on his employees sometimes but usually that’s because they need it.

6.      He doesn't like to be alone. I think a lot of that stems from when he was a kid and his parents neglected him somewhat. Plus, he was an only child. He likes being surrounded by people.

7.      He’s a very private person. Too private. It’s hard to get inside his head.

8.      I love it when he smiles at me. He has the most beautiful smile ever. It would dazzle the crankiest old lady on the planet I just know it.

9.      He thinks I’m afraid of commitment but I know he’s the one who’s scared of it. Even though he loves me, he’s nervous about taking that next step. So I wait patiently because I know he’s worth it.

10.  Colin better hurry up though and make a move eventually. I’m not getting any younger and I want to have a big family. He doesn’t know it yet, but he wants to have a big family too. *winks*

My Thoughts:

Three Broken Promises (Drew + Fable, #3)Three Broken Promises by Monica Murphy
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When I started Three Broken Promises I was a little worried about liking it as much as the previous books in the series. I really loved Drew and Fable...especially Fable, I adored her, and I was worried that I wouldn't like Jenn quite as much, or that I would constantly be comparing them. But you can't do that. It's a different couple, with a totally different dynamic!

Right off I will say that as much as I love Colin...love his take charge, manhandling ways in the bedroom, and by the pool, and in the office...for about 80% of the book I wanted to smack him upside his head!! Dear Lord!! It should be illegal for him to be in his head so much, but I totally get it. He feels like he let Jenn's brother down in more ways than one, and he has to deal with that guilt. It actually made me love him all the more.

Jenn really wants to be self-sufficient, independent, and strong, but life seems determined to disrupt those plans. After she runs away from home, she makes some bad decisions, but seriously, can you blame her? After Colin rescues her, takes her home, and gives her a job, her past comes back to haunt her. She doesn't know what to think about her relationship with Colin, she's feeling trapped, so she decides to leave and strike it own on her own.

Through all their ups and downs, and through me going through the tissues, it takes a while, but they finally hear what they need to from each other. It took going through some scary moments for them to FINALLY say the words they both needed to say, but it totally works. Although, I was saying over and over while reading, the same five words.

Just. Ask. Her. To. Stay
