Brody Markham has
endured a nightmare, spending the last five years in prison and losing
everything that was dear to him. Now he’s back home, trying to survive in a
world he doesn’t recognize anymore. While his family and friends desperately
try to reach through to him, he shelters himself further and further away from
their love.
Alyssa Myers has worked her entire life to distance herself from the luxurious and privileged lifestyle in which she was raised. Running her non-profit agency, The Haven, she is content to spend her days helping abused animals find sanctuary, which fulfills her in a way that money just can’t buy.
Maybe it’s that
she recognizes in Brody some of the same characteristics she sees in her
homeless wards, but Alyssa is powerless to stop her personal quest to make
Brody whole again.
While Brody
struggles to surface from the darkness, Alyssa tries to protect her heart in
case he’s not willing to accept the light that she offers him.

Amber's Review:
4.75 Star (by Amber Presley Boyd)
Well here I thought when I read On the Rocks and met the
deliciously handsome Hunter Markham that this series couldn’t get any better.
But oh boy did Brody Markham, Hunter’s even yummier and brooding twin, prove me
all sorts of wrong!! Sawyer Bennett has continued to make this series so much
more than a story about a bar on the beach, much like she seems to do with
every story of hers I read. I knew when meeting Brody in OTR that there was a
lot going on with him just getting out of prison; and as much as was alluded to
his story there was oh so much more. Man oh man was I right there. I was really
eager to read this one, because of both wanting to know more about what made
Brody so closed off from everyone and want the tension was between he and
Alyssa. They were like the perfect balm to the other and I was drawn into their
dance from the beginning. Alyssa wanting to heal Brody’s hurts, he wanting to
protect her and at the same time struggling to allow himself to experience
anything good. Throw in a little crazy ex-drama, some parent from hell
interaction and a whole lot of hot and steamy and you have a story that just
makes you feel good. I love how Sawyer brings in all of Brody’s family and
shows he and Alyssa both that their friends and family are supporting and
loving them no matter what and that even though one act can change everything
you thought you wanted, it can also bring you to the thing you need more than
anything. Cannot wait to see where this series takes us next time! Bring on
more Outer Bank and The Last Call Series!!
